Right-wing opposition parties and their supporters blocked traffic in front of the Serbian government headquarters demanding that the authorities reject the European plan for Kosovo.
The protesters also demanded the resignation of President Aleksnadar Vucic and snap elections. The crowd carried banners saying Serbia Remembers, Vucic Resign, No Capitulation and Never NATO.
The protest was held on the anniversary of the start of the 1999 NATO air campaign against what was then the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY) which resulted in the withdrawal of Serbian police and Yugoslav military forces from Kosovo.
The gathering was organized by the Dveri movement, New Democratic Party of Serbia and the Movement to Restore the Kingdom of Serbia.
Dveri leader Bosko Obradovic told the Beta news agency before the protest that similar “warning blockades” would be organized in front of the Vojvodina provincial government seat in Novi Sad and in front of city administration buildings in Nis, Krusevac, Cacak, Loznica and Sabac. “The idea is for this to be the start of warning protests,” he said.
