Opposition to blockade Novi Sad police headquarters
Opposition MPs and councilors said they would blockade the Novi Sad Police headquarters on Thursday after police chief Goran Radonjic refused to meet with them.
The opposition officials asked for a meeting with Radonjic about the police beating of a 74 year old man who had to undergo surgery as a consquence. The man was arrested for pepper spraying a policeman in riot gear at a protest outside the city courthouse. He lost a testicle because of the beating while in police custody.
The opposition MPs believe that the decision to transfer the case to the prosecution in Sremska Mitrovica is an attempt to sweep the case under the carpet.
Earlier, opposition officials said they learned off the record that Radonjic and police officer Slobodan Drmanac beat up the 74 year old Ilija Kostic.
