
Talks are ongoing about the possibility of Hungary’s oil and gas company MOL buying a stake in the Serbian Oil Industry (NIS), Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s chief of staff Gergely Gulyas told a briefing on Thursday.

He described any potential deal as a “normal market transaction” but stressed that the talks are still in the early stages, Reuters reported.
Gulyas added that it is in NIS’s own interest to end Russian ownership and that one possible option is a larger role for the Hungarian company MOL.
Following a meeting in Belgrade on Wednesday with Serbian Mining and Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto announced that Hungary’s MOL will increase its oil exports to Serbia by two-and-a-half times, and said that his country would use every available means to ensure Serbia’s oil supply, media reported.
