Orthodox Christians mark Christmas Day: Christ is born

Orthodox Christians who follow the Julian calendar celebrate Christmas on January 7. In Serbia, this most joyous holiday is filled with customs that last for days prior to the Christmas Day.
Christmas is celebrated as the day of the birth of Jesus Christ, it is celebrated with family and lasts for three days.
People greet each other with the 'Christ is born' phrase, and respond with 'Truly he is born'.
Christians traditionally believe that on this day, everyone who has been in a fight during the year should reconcile and forgive each other's insults.
It is customary not to visit guests on Christmas Day itself, except for the first and only guest in the house, and he should bring happiness, progress, joy and love. He comes early in the morning, and he can also be a random passer-by who stops by the house that morning.
It symbolically signifies the Wise Men who followed the star from the East and came to worship the little Christ. The hostess of the house serves the guest and presents him with a suitable gift, and it is also considered that he is the man who should bring good luck to the house throughout the year.
In order for Christians to properly prepare for Christmas, it is preceded by a forty-day fast, which is not as strict as the Easter fast.
