OSCE mission calls Belgrade to condemn violence against journalists

The OSCE mission to Serbia called the authorities to condemn violence against journalists, including the latest threats against the head of a local journalists’ organization.
“The OSCE mission urges political leaders, public officials and all relevant authorities to unequivocally condemn all cases of violence against journalists,” a press release said following reports of a new death threat against journalist Dinko Gruhonjic who heads the Independent Journalists Association of Vojvodina. The death threat was made in a graffiti spray painted on the wall of Gruhonjic’s apartment building.
Amnesty International called the Serbian authorities to investigate the persistent smear campaigns & serious threats to journalists’ safety. Failure to act would put lives at risk, an X post said.
“This terrifying message represents a direct threat to Gruhonjic’s life requiring an immediate and thorough reaction by the prosecution and police…. Difference of opinion cannot be the cause of threats and intimidation,” the press release said.
