Osmani: Kosovo not against implementation of its obligations

Osmani told an interview with the Voice of America in New York, where she attended the UN Security Council meeting on Kosovo, that she will turn to the Constitutional Court regarding the statute of the Community of Serb Municipalities (CSM) once an agreement is reached on how to implement the acts arising from the 2023 Ohrid Agreement.

“The agreement does not only include the article on the CSM, there are also other articles that, among other things, require Serbia to recognize Kosovo's sovereignty, territorial integrity, refrain from using force as a tool in relations, and article 4 requires that Serbia not object to Kosovo's membership in international organizations. So, all Kosovo is seeks is for the agreement to be implemented in its entirety and for it to create obligations for both sides, otherwise, both the agreement and the dialogue will be pointless,” said Osmani.

The Kosovo President said Serbia “will again attempt to carry out attacks on Kosovo,” as it did in Banjska in September last year.

Commenting on the unsuccessful referendum to recall the mayors of four municipalities in the north of Kosovo, Osmani said that, through its legislation, Kosovo offered all the conditions, but that it cannot force citizens to vote.

Elections are “the citizens’ democratic right,” she added.

“Of course, we have to take as many additional initiatives as possible for the integration of Serbs, protect them from the illegal structures that threaten them, give them the opportunity to progress, realize their economic potential, feel as safe as everyone else in Kosovo, but the right to vote is individual. The state cannot force anyone to vote, it is a free right,” said Osmani.
