Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani told reporters at the European Political Community summit in Chisinau that she had a short meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, contradicting his claim that officials from Pristina refused to meet with officials from Belgrade.

Osmani said the meeting was initiated by French President Emanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. She said that European Union High Representative Josep Borrell was also present at the meeting.

“It was a 10 minute meeting that confirmed once more that Vucic is not interested in a solution,” she said adding that Macron and Scholz suggested the informal meeting. Osmani said that a solution to de-escalate the current crisis exists but has to be in line with the Kosovo Constitution.

Macron told reporters that France and Germany proposed new local elections in the north of Kosovo. He said that Vucic and Osmani agreed that “clear decisions” would be taken over the situation in the northern municipalities in the next few weeks.

“I will continue working with our allies on some of the issues they proposed,” she told Radio TV Kosovo (RTK).
