Outgoing Prime Minister and Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) leader Milos Vucevic said on Friday that the Not Giving Up Serbia gathering could be extended past this weekend.

The gathering and the forming of the Movement for the People and the State as announced by President Aleksandar Vucic are taking place in central Belgrade over the weekend. Central parts of the Serbian capital have been closed for traffic and white tents have been put up on the road between the Serbian Parliament and Presidency buildings with tractors deployed around the park in front of the presidency where regime supporters have been camping since mid-March.

Vucevic said he expects demands to be defined at the central event which, according to him, must include a return for Serbia to get back to normal life “unblock all blockades, pressure, violence, insults, stop the lies and tricks that we have been fiercely bombarded for five and a half months”.

He added that students have to go back to school and teachers back to class with farmers going back to their fields. “The military should guard the state, police maintain order, the people who committed crimes should answer regardless of which side they are on,” he said.
