President Aleksandar Vucic said that the coming Serbian Armed Forces parade in New Belgrade is intended to send a message of stability and security and has nothing to do with day to day events.

According to him, the parade will also show the country as a deterrent for any potential aggressor. He said that is perhaps the most important message that can be sent in “today’s world of insecurity, madness and chaos”.

Commenting statements against the parade he said the “anti-Serb hysteria” has been underway for months “especially from the (opposition) Green-Left Front whose members say that this is the same army that killed brothers in the region in the 1990s”. “These young men and women are under the age of 30 and our soldiers and police were killed by people they are courting now,” he said.

Vucic said that the parade was scheduled more than 6 months ago and has nothing to do with day to day events. He added that it is meant to mark the national holiday called Day of Serb Unity, Freedom and the National Flag and show what money has been spent on in strengthening the military.
