The Serbian Parliament’s Defense and Internal Affairs Committee refused to discuss the explosives found near a gas pipeline near the border with Hungary on Wednesday.

Opposition Green-Left Front (ZLF) MP Bogdan Radovanovic wanted a debate on the explosives included on the agenda but was outvoted by ruling coalition MPs. Radovanovic told the committee meeting that they should have been officially informed about the incident adding that the Internal Affairs Ministry (MUP) should have been involved instead of the military which found the explosives.

The explosives were found by Serbian military personnel earlier this week near the pipeline leading from Hungary which supplies both countries with natural gas from Russia. The find prompted Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to tour military posts along the border with Serbia on Easter Monday.

Serbian Military Security Agency (VBA) Director General Djuro Jovanic told reporters that his agency had been warning that the pipeline could be sabotaged for months.
