Parliament speaker proposes session on security be held Thursday

Opposition MP Srdjan Milivojevic told N1 that Serbian Parliament speaker Vladimir Orlic has offered that the session to discuss the security situation in the country be held on Thursday, May 18.

The request for the holding of the session has been signed by 84 MPs.

Since the opposition has requested that the dismissal of Internal Affairs Minister Bratislav Gasic also be discussed, MP Milivojevic explained that putting this item on the agenda requires another 60 signatures.

Protests against violence were held in several Serbian cities following two mass shootings in the country last week that left 17 people dead and 21 wounded.

The protesters’ put forward their demands, which also include the holding of an urgent parliament session at which the responsibility of the government and the security situation in the country would be discussed and the dismissal of Minister Gasic.

The deadline for meeting all protest demands was set for Friday, May 12.
