Serbian Parliament speaker and senior official of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) Vladimir Orlic said that the request of the opposition People’s Party for a referendum on the Franco-German plan for Kosovo is a “farce.”

“An ordinary farce with ulterior motives. Its purpose is to allow them to compete amongst themselves in who will be most noticeable in their tycoon-owned media and the loudest in attacking (Serbian President) Aleksandar Vucic, saying how allegedly now nothing is any good,” Orlic told Pink TV when asked to comment on the referendum and claims that Vucic cannot decide the fate of Kosovo on his own.

“Let’s be clear, everyone knows that, in line with our Constitution, the president of state represents Serbia in the country and abroad, that he was directly elected by the people of this country precisely so as to enact the policy chosen by the people,” said Orlic.

Commenting on the opposition’s claims that, as Parliament speaker, he continues to delay calling a Parliament session in order to avoid discussions on Kosovo that is, on the Franco-German plan, Orlic said such assertions were “false and hypocritical.”
