Ivica Dacic, Serbia’s Parliament Speaker, predicted on Tuesday that some of his political opponents would not be satisfied with the suggestions expected by the group of the European Parliament members (MEPs) who mediated the inter-party dialogue in the country on the elections’ conditions.

He said that despite the expected dissatisfaction, the main opposition parties would not opt for the boycott of the elections due in the spring of 2022.

“I’m sure they won’t go into such confrontation with the EP,” he added.
Dacic said the final stage of negotiations with the parties which refused the MEPs involvement was expected next week.

“Then, in September, we could start completing the process with that other side (the opposition which only wanted the MEPs mediation) and see where we are,” Dacic told the pro-regime Pink TV.

He added that the deadline for MEPs suggestions about the lections conditions was nearing, but he had not received anything from them yet.

Ahead of the last general vote in 2020, the MEPs also tried to bridge the gap between the ruling coalition and the main opposition, but failed.

The largest opposition parties boycotted the elections after their crucial demands regarding fair conditions and free media had not been met.

The result was the Parliament without any serious opposition.

Ahead of 2022 presidential, Belgrade, some local ballots, including possible early general vote, the opposition doesn’t incline to a new boycott, hoping for a possible win in the capital.

However, they don’t believe the MEPs will achieve a breakthrough in negotiations with the ruling coalition, or the agreed will be honoured.
