Serbia's Parliament said on Monday its Speaker Ivica Dacic would witness the inauguration of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi on behalf of Serbia's head of state Aleksandar Vucic.

BBC described Ebrahim Raisi as a hardline cleric close to the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Both the US and the European Union are concerned with Iran's policies, particularly regarding human rights.

Teheran is under Washington's sanctions and Brussels' restrictive measures.

"The EU does not currently have a Delegation in Iran; it is therefore represented by the member state holding the Presidency of the Council of the EU. Currently, the EU is represented by the Embassy of Portugal until 30 June 2021 followed by the Embassy of Slovenia until 31 December 2021," the European Union External Service EEAS said in February.

The US has not had formal diplomatic relations with Iran since 1980.

Serbia says its foreign policy priority is to join the EU. It also pledges it wants good relations with the US.

Brussels has been warning Belgrade about the need to harmonise its foreign policy with the bloc, especially its relations with Moscow and Beijing.

In a meeting with the Iranian ambassador to Serbia Rashid Hasanpur Baei, Dacic on Monday said his country was ready to improve the parliamentary cooperation between the two states.

Hasanpur Baei added the relations were good, especially in the two countries economies.
