The Speaker of the Serbian Parliament, Ana Brnabic, stated that there is no political crisis in Serbia and that a transitional government would constitute a coup, emphasizing that President Aleksandar Vucic would never agree to it, even if she were to "beg him for three days”. Pročitaj više

„We don’t have a political crisis. The only crisis at this moment is within the opposition, as people do not want such an opposition. In that sense, it would be fair for the opposition to demand elections and say, ‘People, we represent no one, so it is a disgrace for us to even sit here.’ But they didn’t care about legitimacy even when they were in power, so why would they care now as the opposition“ Brnabic said during a morning program on TV Pink.

Regarding the idea of a transitional technical government, Brnabic argued that it would represent a detachment of sovereignty from the people.

„There’s no chance. That would be an agreement between us and the opposition to ignore what the people are saying, to strip them of their sovereignty. To say, ‘Who cares what you think and how you voted, you don’t matter to us. We will decide among ourselves how we will divide power and when we might call new elections.’ That’s literally a coup,“ Brnabic said on TV Pink.

It should be noted that Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic resigned last week following three months of student protests at multiple universities across Serbia. The protests were triggered by the collapse of the railway station canopy in Novi Sad, which resulted in 15 fatalities.
