Penal authority: Activist Stefanovic struck by another detainee

In an official statement the Administration said that, on Saturday, May 17, during morning exercise, another detainee verbally abused D.S. and struck him in the face.

“Security Service officers immediately separated them and took detainee D.S. for a medical examination at the prison infirmary. Our doctor immediately issued an order for this person to be taken to the Vojvodina Clinical Hospital Center ER for a complete diagnostic examination. D.S. was returned to the facility after all examinations because the doctor’s opinion was that he did not require further hospitalization, and we acted in accordance with that,” the statement said.

It added that the prison administration followed procedures by notifying the police department and prosecutor’s office to take further actions within their jurisdiction for criminal prosecution of the detainee who attacked D.S.

Davor Stefanovic’s lawyer told N1’s reporter earlier on Wednesday that Davor was beaten on Saturday, but that he did not know about it until he visited him on Wednesday.

In addition to Davor Stefanovic, activists Srdjan Djuric and Mladen Cvijetic are also being held in the Novi Sad County Jail.
