Petition launched for removal of Valjevo police chief

At the invitation of the Valjevo local community assembly, residents began signing a petition Tuesday evening in the city’s central square calling for the dismissal of the Valjevo Police Department chief over recent events where, according to the petition, police “unlawfully and inappropriately used force against peaceful demonstrators under his responsibility and command.”

“Vladan Jerinic, as the head of the Valjevo Police Department, is responsible for the excessive use of force by the police and the torture of peaceful citizens during the protest in Valjevo on August 14, 2025,” the petition reads.
In the document, Valjevo residents are demanding that Serbia’s Internal Affairs Ministry immediately initiate proceedings to remove the police chief due to his failures, determine the responsibility of all police officers involved in the excessive use of force during the August 14, 2025 incident, and publicly inform citizens about the measures taken.
“Police beating of citizens who exercised their constitutional right to public assembly and freedom of expression is unacceptable, violates legally prescribed standards for police conduct, and contravenes international conventions that guarantee humane treatment and prohibit torture and abuse,” the Valjevo residents’ petition reads.

The petition will be delivered to the Internal Affairs Minister Ivica Dacic, Police Director Dragan Vasiljevic, and the Serbian Internal Affairs Ministry.
