Serbia will continue to regularly pay salaries, pensions, social welfare and all other benefits in Kosovo and Metohija, said Thursday Serbian Government Office for Kosovo chief Petar Petkovic, recalling that six months ago Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti banned the use of the Serbian dinar in Kosovo (Kosovo and Metohija is the official name for what the Serbian authorities consider to be the country’s southern province).
The Central Bank of Kosovo regulation on cash operations, enforcing the euro as the sole currency than can be used for cash payment transactions, came into effect on February 1.
“Through seven rounds of negotiations in Brussels, Pristina refused every constructive proposal coming from Belgrade. Kurti's only goal is to expel the Serb people from Kosovo and Metohija by causing a humanitarian disaster,” Petkovic wrote on the X social media platform.
He added that “Kurti threatened the work of hospitals, kindergartens, schools, targeted the socially vulnerable and the elderly, prohibited payments of financial resources.”
“Serbia will continue to regularly pay salaries, pensions, social welfare and all other benefits” said Office for Kosovo chief Petkovic.
