European Parliament Rapporteur for Serbia Tonino Picula MEP told Croatian state radio that the military parade in Belgrade is President Aleksandar Vucic’s message that he is sitting on multiple chairs.

“He showed military equipment bought in both the east and west, repeating his message that he is sitting on multiple chairs. He also thanked Russian intelligence services who, allegedly, warned him of an attempt to topple him on the first anniversary of the Novi Sad tragedy,” Picula said.

Picula said that the parade had “a pronounced internal political purpose”. He added that Vucic wanted to show that he still controls the most important state institution and that he is the most popular figure among the public.

According to the rapporteur, the recent dismissals in the “apparatus of repression” showed Vucic’s lack of trust towards his own institutions.
