European Parliament Rapporteur for Serbia Tonino Picula MEP told N1 that the European Union can’t keep quiet about the incident at the March 15 protest in Belgrade. Pročitaj više
Democracy activists and the opposition said that the Serbian police deployed and used a sonic weapon against the crowd of protesters in an attempt to create a wide-spread incident.
“Suspicion definitely exists about the use of sound cannon. What is especially worrying is that a lot of people have reported medical problems which could have resulted from the use a device of that kind. I would like to commend the calm and responsible way the students behaved at that moment,” Picula said, adding that the EU can’t keep quiet.
According to him, an independent investigation has to be conducted and the EU has to exert stronger and more articulated pressure on the Serbian authorities, and has to take a clear stand on this impermissible behavior in line with all information.
