PM answers opposition MP’s BlackRock question on Twitter instead of parliament

An opposition MPs question about the BlackRock investment company’s alleged purchase of Serbia’s debt was answered in a Twitter post instead of in parliament by Prime Minister Ana Brnabic on Thursday.
Opposition MP Vladeta Jankovic asked Brnabic to confirm or deny reports that BlackRock took over 34 billion Euro of the country’s debt. He also wanted to know if it’s true that the Serbian authorities would have had to put up collateral in the form of land or mining resources.
Brnabic chose to respond in a Twitter post saying that “the answer to both questions is: NO, not true”.
Speaking in Parliament, Brnabic is reported to have said that BlackRock owns 138 million Euro worth of Serbia’s Eurobonds, or 1.54 percent of the total issue of bonds or 0.4 percent of Serbia’s overall public debt. She added that the Republic of Serbia bonds issued on the international market are not guaranteed by state property.
“It would be nice if the opposition tried, from time to time, to speak the truth and for the tycoon media that support them to check their information before publishing. The truth is easy to determine when you want to if you want to. You can do it!,” she wrote.
BlackRock bought the Belgrade-based eFront software firm in 2019 for a reported 1.3 billion Dollars.
