Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic told the Serbian state TV (RTS) that he would address the issue of political responsibility for the Novi Sad railway station tragedy at a meeting of the ruling party presidency.

Vucevic, leader of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), said he called the meeting for Friday. “In terms of political responsibility, I expect that (Construction, Infrastructure and Traffic Minister Goran) Vesic’s resignation won’t be the only one. We will discuss everything that a serious political organization has to discuss at party body meetings,” he said.

Vesic resigned his post following the deaths of 14 people in the collapse of a canopy roof at Novi Sad Railway Station on November 1, amid calls for the resignations of everyone involved in the reconstruction of the building.

Vucevic said that prosecutors and experts investigating the collapse of the roof would have a difficult job. According to him, the government is not running from political accountability. He added that talks are ongoing in the government, with the president and parties in the ruling coalition.

“I think President Aleksandar Vucic feels the same that this can’t end with Vesic’s resignation alone. This is a process that will take time, but not an endless one, I am talking about short term.
