A statement said that teams of power company staff are working to “repair faults in areas where electricity is still unavailable”.
It said that “the Prime Minister’s Office continues, in cooperation with the relevant authorities, to monitor the current situation, as new snowfall and freezing rain have been forecast for today”.
The statement confirmed that emergencies were declared in 8 municipalities adding that power has been restored in just two of them. “Parts of Valjevo, Osecina, Sabac, Loznica, Mali Zvornik, Ljubovija, Krupanj, Bor, Kladovo, Negotin, Uzice, Kosjeric, Pozega and Cajetina, as well as the entire municipality of Majdanpek, are currently without electricity,” it said.
Earlier on Friday, protests were held in several places over failure by local authorities to prepare to deal with winter weather problems which have left a large number of households without power and water.
