Police director warns of potential attempts to storm institutions on St. Vitus Day, says student blockades a form of violence

Police Director Dragan Vasiljevic said on Friday that police have information suggesting there may be attempts to disrupt public order and storm institutions during a student protesters’ rally planned for St. Vitus Day (Vidovdan in Serbian).
“The police presence will be visible. Citizens, whether they are protesters or not, will clearly see police officers. This means that anyone attempting to disrupt public order will be doing so with full awareness,” Vasiljevic told the Serbian state TV (RTS).
He said that all state institutions, media outlets, and private property in Belgrade will be protected.
“The police are fully prepared to maintain stable public order, and the citizens of Serbia can rest assured,” said Vasiljevic, adding that there have been many unauthorized and, in many respects, illegal public gatherings in recent months.
“Students are trying to distance themselves from violence, but by blocking the city, universities, and institutions, they are, in fact, committing a form of violence,” Vasiljevic said.
