Police enter student campaign offices ahead of Vucic’s visit to Arandjelovac

Police officers in the town of Arandjelovac entered the offices of a student political list on Friday, just hours before a scheduled visit by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. Students at the scene reported that officers demanded they vacate the premises to clear the route for a “high-priority individual.”

According to the students, police officers entered their offices around 2 pm.
“After we contacted our lawyer, who arrived shortly after, a compromise was reached with the officers. Instead of leaving the building, we agreed to let two officers remain in our offices until the ‘high-priority individual’ had passed. The officers stayed for over an hour before leaving, and there was no further harassment,” the students explained.
Representatives of the student list told the daily Danas that the group consisted of inspectors from the city of Kragujevac supported by local Arandjelovac police. Students from Kragujevac who were assisting with the campaign said they recognized Colonel Vladimir Sebek, the head of the Kragujevac Police Department, along with several of his close associates.
The students were initially ordered to leave and disperse immediately, but they refused and called their attorney, who confirmed the incident to Danas, noting that the inspectors were professional and that a mutual agreement was successfully reached.
While the visit was not officially announced, Danas learned that Vucic is visiting Arandjelovac this Friday. Students reported that a rally is scheduled for Friday evening at the local Sports Center, which was decorated with ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) symbols and slogans as early as Thursday.
Arandjelovac is one of ten municipalities across Serbia where local elections are scheduled to take place on March 29.
