The police in the western Serbian city of Cacak said on Monday that 6 men who assaulted a group of university students were identified.

The statement came the morning after a mass protest in front of the city’s central police station by protesters demanding the arrest of the men who assaulted the students. The students were assulted on Saturday night by a group of young men dressed in black with hoods over their heads. The students called the police but the officer on duty hung up the call, an Instagram post said.

The police statement claimed that a patrol was immediately dispatched to the scene of what it said was a fight between university and high school students. It said that 5 people were injured including 2 young men aged 28 and 29 who tried to stop the fight. It said the police is trying to identify the rest of the assailants.

A lawyer for the students said the men who attacked them were organized and coordinated, wearing black uniforms.
