Police officer receives threats, Ministry says he’s not the one who brutally beat woman in Novi Sad
The Novi Sad Police Department said Tuesday in response to death threats made against police officer Marko Beljanski and his family that Beljanski was not on duty at Monday evening’s protest outside the Vojvodina Government building and was not the officer shown in a widely circulated video violently assaulting a young woman that evening.
The Police Department said the officer in the video is a member of a different unit within the Internal Affairs Ministry and that any potential responsibility will be determined by the competent authorities through the proper legal process.
The police added that Beljanski and his family have been targeted with death threats, and that their home address, full names, and other personal details are being widely shared on social media.
The public prosecutor’s office has been notified of the threats and will decide how to classify the incident under criminal law, said the Police Department, urging citizens to refrain from spreading unverified information and from issuing threats against anyone.
