A strong police presence was deployed to the city hall to throw the opposition councilors out of the building. A physical clash ensued and the opposition was thrown out of the building after several minutes of shoving and pushing.
The opposition officials said were there to support the student protests and demand. They said this was kind of political strike.
Opposition councilor Miran Pogacar was arrested and fellow councilor Mladen Cvijetic was injured. Cvijetic was lying on the pavement but refused help from paramedics.
A Gendarmerie unit was deployed outside Novi Sad City Hall after the opposition were thrown out.
The ProGlas civic initiative called for a wider-ranging protest for Friday.
Students and their supporters stood in silence on the roads of all university centers across Serbia for the 15 Minutes of Silence in memory of the 15 people killed in the collapse of a concrete awning at Novi Sad Railway Station. The students have repeatedly distanced themselves from all political parties.
