Pollster Srdjan Bogosavljevic said on Friday that 46 percent of Serbians support the country’s membership in the European Union.

“Enthusiasm for the EU has dropped in Serbia,” he told a conference on perspectives of the EU in the Western Balkans, adding that just 21 percent of the people polled in March said they have a positive view of the EU. The Ipsos agency consultant said that the attitude of people in other countries of the region differ greatly with 90 percent of Montenegrins supporting EU membership, 77 percent in Albania and 74 in North Macedonia.

He said that the number of people who don’t believe Serbia will ever join the EU has tripled in the past seven years. “In 2015 just 14 percent of the people polled said they don’t expect Serbia to join the EU and in April this year that view was held by 43 percent,” he said. Bogosavljevic said that in 2008, 32 percent of Serbians felt that EU membership was not worth recognizing Kosovo adding that the number grew to 49 percent in 2022..

According to Bogosavljevic, 49 percent of the voters who support the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) want EU membership while 34 percent are oppose while 66 percent of opposition United for Serbia voters want EU membership and 24 percent don’t.
