Ponos quits People’s Party

“Zdravko Ponos whose candidacy for Serbian President was supported by the NS announced today that he is leaving the party,” a press release said.

Ponos sent the party an e-mail saying: “This is to inform you that I am leaving the People’s Party”.

“We thank him for everything that he did and wish him luck in future political activities,” the party press release said.
Ponos was a deputy leader of the NS since its formation in 2017. He withdrew from the party presidency in November 2021, saying that he would not run for the post again. His explanation was that some things happened which mean that he finds remaining in the leadership of the party unacceptable but he remained a party member.
The retired general lost Sunday’s elections to President Aleksandar Vucic.
