Predrag Marsenic of New DSS proposes declaring Kosovo an occupied territory as the only solution to the crisis

In an interview with the newspaper Nova, Marsenic said that Serbia must clearly demonstrate that it considers Kosovo its southern province, with substantial autonomy, from which follow the constitutional obligations of all state bodies to protect Serbia’s interests in Kosovo and Metohija in both internal and external political relations.

"For New DSS, the French-German agreement and the annex from Ohrid are null and void and cannot produce legal consequences; therefore, they must be rejected in their entirety," he said.

He further stated that, considering the violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1244, Serbia must declare the occupation of part of its state territory, thus showing that it will never stop fighting for the preservation of its territorial integrity.

Speaking about the upcoming session, where the opposition's proposal to amend the Law on Mining and Energy, which calls for a ban on lithium and boron mining, will be discussed, Marsenic noted that the majority of experts in Serbia believe the lithium mine project is harmful to the environment and poses a threat to the future, not just of the Jadar Valley but of a much wider area in Serbia.

"The majority of Serbian citizens, as well as all opposition parties, share the same stance. Therefore, it is important for this law to pass, but considering the behavior of Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) deputies, on whom this depends, I cannot say that I’m optimistic," Marsenic added.

He also noted that the session would proceed like all previous ones—"as an SNS circus show."

He emphasized that for New DSS, a permanent ban on lithium and boron mining is the only correct solution.

Marsenic, when speaking about the reintroduction of mandatory military service, said that the government is using the issue to distract from their mistakes and to "blindfold the public, mainly due to the failure of Kosovo policy."

"The reintroduction of military service is a strategically important decision, and New DSS has long advocated for it," he added.
