Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated that his discussions with William Burns, the Director of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), during Burns' visit to Serbia, were "very useful and good," covering all topics important for the future of the region and Serbia.

„They presented their views, and we presented ours. We had a very useful, polite, and important meeting,“ Vucic said in response to journalists’ questions after the cornerstone-laying ceremony for a new facility for the „Kobre“ Special Purpose Military Police Unit in the „Vasa Carapic“ barracks in Belgrade.

Vucic explained that the decision not to release an official statement following the CIA chief’s visit was based on the preferences of both parties. „When you talk with guests, you can see whether they want the public involved or not. As a serious country, we thought this was the best possible approach, and the Americans, as the world’s most serious country alongside China, also believed this was the best way to handle the visit,“ Vucic noted.

Burns’ regional visit: Sarajevo, Pristina, and Belgrade

During his regional visit, CIA Director William Burns first traveled to Sarajevo, where he met with intelligence community colleagues, members of the BiH Presidency, and the Foreign Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

A U.S. government official confirmed to N1 Sarajevo that discussions in Sarajevo included issues of mutual interest, particularly the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The talks also addressed the „concerning secessionist rhetoric and actions of Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik and the Republika Srpska Government,“ the official told N1 Sarajevo.

After Burns’ visit, Dodik stated that Republika Srpska has never contested the sovereignty and territorial integrity of BiH according to the Dayton Agreement and that secession has never been the policy of the entity.

Following Sarajevo, Burns visited Belgrade, though no official details about his visit were released. Sources from Danas reported that the Serbian Security Information Agency (BIA), headed by Vladimir Orlic, hosted him.

After his time in Belgrade, Burns traveled to Pristina, where he met with Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani and Kosovo Intelligence Agency Director Petrit Ajeti on Thursday, according to Radio Free Europe. On Friday, Burns also met with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti at the Kosovo Government building, RFE reported.
