The Press Council said on Friday that the pro-regime tabloid Informer violated the Serbian Journalists’ Code when it published an interview with a multiple rapist.

The interview with multiple rapist Igor Milosevic was published in September, drawing the anger of women’s organizations who staged protests in front of its offices. Milosevic was released just weeks before the interview after serving a lengthy prison term. He was arrested after the Informer journalists who interviewed him filed a complaint of harassment. The Press Council said Informer also violated the parts of the code covering truth in reporting.

The Press Council Complaints Commission said that the Informer interviewed violated the code unlike a Danas daily interview with actor Goran Jevtic who was sentenced for sexual harassment of a minor. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic criticized what he called a witch hunt against Informer over the interview, claiming that the Danas interview was just as bad.

The Press council reviewed the Danas interview at the request of that daily newspaper’s editor in chief Dragoljub Petrovic and Bojan Cvejic, the CEO of its publisher Dan Graf.
