The cultural and historical heritage of our people is not private property to be traded and made into a business, Prince Philip Karadjordjevic said Sunday.

In an interview with Danas daily, on the occasion of the anniversary of the assassination of King Alexander I the Unifier in Marseilles in 1934, he said that what is the cultural and historical heritage of a country belongs to the entire nation and nothing can be done outside of the people's interests.

"This topic will not be forgotten, it must be stopped and I will personally stand up for it, I am in communication with experts in this field and at the international level and, very soon, I will inform the public about further steps," Karadjordjevic stated.

He added that he and his wife Danica are committed to preserving the cultural and historical heritage of Serbia.

"There is no justification for demolishing buildings of cultural and historical importance when there is restoration. The demolition of part of the "Arkada" in the Bukovicke Banja park is a violation of an era and our identity. I believe that there are not enough strong laws that would prevent the crime that happens every day in the territory of the whole of Serbia, but also in Belgrade, where there are buildings of high cultural and historical importance that have recently been devastated and demolished in very suspicious and above all unacceptable ways," the Prince explained.
