Pristina chosen to host Med Games 2030, Serbia OC protests
The General Assembly of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG) chose Pristina to host the 2030 games, prompting a protest from the Serbian Olympic Committee (OC).
A press release on the ICMG portal said that Pristina was chosen as Host City of the 21st Mediterranean Games 2030 winning 55 of the 66 votes in the Assembly.
The Serbian Olympic Committee said that Pristina was chosen in violation of the rules of international sports organizations that are opposed to political interference in sports. It said that Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti also spoke unannounced at the meeting in Greece.
“The Olympic Committee sharply reacted to this type of interference by the so-called Prime Minister of the fasle state of Kosovo and insisted that the the decision on hosting the 2030 games should be taken after the 2024 Olympic Games which is the practice in cases like this. The ICMG leadership refused to vote on Serbia’s proposal leaving delegates with a fait accompli,” the statement said and condemned the political interference.
Kurti said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that Kosovo was chosen to host the 2030 games welcoming the decision as “an extraordinary achievement”.
Kosova is officially the host of the Mediterranean Games Prishtina 2030. This is an extraordinary achievement. We look forward to hosting all participating countries and celebrating with the world! Congratulations to all! pic.twitter.com/jLIClJGW0G
