The Kosovo Government decision on declaring “Civil Defense” and “Northern Brigade” terrorist organizations was not coordinated with the United States and other international partners, the US State Department told Voice of America (VOA).

The decision should have been coordinated with the closest partners, including those whose primary responsibility is to ensure stability in Kosovo, the State Department said in a reply to VOA, adding that it once again calls on Kosovo to refrain from unilateral action while the US is working with all sides to resolve the current crisis.

It stressed that the US condemns the unacceptable violence against the NATO-led Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo (KFOR).

All those responsible for the attacks should be prosecuted - in a regular process and with full transparency, said the US Department of State.

Kosovo’s Government labeled on Thursday “Civil Defense” and “Northern Brigade” as terrorist organizations, claiming they are responsible for the unrest in northern Kosovo and are a threat to the constitutional order and security.

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti claims that these two organizations carried out operations with terrorist elements: attacks against the Kosovo Police, members of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) and KFOR troops.
