The procurement price of trams for which the city of Belgrade has opened a tender with a budget of 140 million euros for 25 trams exceeds by far the usual price for similar tram procurement in other European cities, reported the Beobuild portal.

The city of Belgrade has opened a tender for the procurement of 25 new trams for the needs of the public transportation.

Beobuild reported that this is a new attempt to make the long-awaited purchase, as the previous tender of November 2023 for 20 new trams was terminated.

The deadline to submit the bids is May 7, 2024, and the estimated value of the contract is 140 million euros. The main criteria for evaluating the best offer will be the price and the deadlines for the first delivery.

So far the biggest concern regarding this tender is the procurement price, which, with a budget of 140 million euros for 25 vehicles, far exceeds the usual price for similar tram procurements in other European cities, reported Beobuild, adding that this works out to 5.5 million euros per tram, “which seems really expensive.”

“As a relevant comparison, this year’s procurement of 40 trams with similar characteristics in Rome cost 130 million euros,” said the portal.
