The ProGlas initiative is demanding a “complete transformation of Serbian society and the fundamental principles on which it is based”, stated Tamara Dzamonja Ignjatovic, a professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade. She emphasized the tremendous potential of students to initiate change in Serbia and highlighted the duty of professors to support them in this endeavor. Pročitaj više

She also criticized Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, saying his statements legitimized actions by those who, during protests, drove vehicles into crowds, injuring peaceful citizens.

ProGlas recently released a video featuring red-colored hands symbolizing „bloody hands,“ which remain stained despite washing. The message accompanying the video stated: „The future cannot be built with bloody hands“.

“This video represents our stance on the current situation, which we were aware of even before the tragic collapse of the Novi Sad awning. However, the gravity of the situation became undeniable after the tragedy resulted in 15 deaths and two severe injuries. This is a clear indication of the ‘bloody hands’ of this regime,” Dzamonja Ignjatovic told N1.

She criticized President Vucic’s response to a recent incident where a driver drove into protestors, injuring members of the Belgrade Philharmonic, by implying that citizens were blocking his way. She said his remarks essentially legitimized such violent acts.

“That essentially means running over people who are standing in the street—not to block someone’s way but to show solidarity with victims and protest against the profound injustices in this society,” Dzamonja Ignjatovic explained.

Discussing the arrest of professor and PSG representative Radivoj Jovovic, along with incidents where protestors were injured, she stated that these actions reflect the authorities’ “loss of control over their behavior.”

“They are acting chaotically, which of course fuels citizens’ anger,” she remarked.

The student protests have brought a sense of optimism to Serbia, she noted.

“You see young people who refuse to normalize the reality they have grown up in. They remain immune to the virus of injustice and possess an innate sense of justice and the fight for freedom,” she said.
