The ProGlas initiative called for a time-limited transitional government as the least painful way out of the crisis in Serbia. Pročitaj više
A statement by the group of university professors, actors, experts and other prominent public figures said that a transitional government is the only way to meet the student demands and create elementary conditions for free and fair elections for legitimate bodies of authority.
According to ProGlas, the government should be time-limited to no less than 3 and no more than 9 months with limited powers and a minimum of ministerial posts to meet basic goals unobstructed. It should also enjoy the widest possible public trust and its ministers would agree not to be part of the next elected government nor should they run in the next elections.
“The student plenaries have unequivocally spoken out about the other necessary conditions to resolve the current crisis – efficiency and no obstructions for public prosecutors and truthful, unbiased and timely reporting by the public broadcasters. ProGlas calls the Supreme Public Prosecutor and RTS (state-controlled public broadcaster) CEO to step down and make room for their acting replacements who would be chosen with a time limit in office, the widest trust and once-off engagement.
ProGlas said it was formed to fight for systemic changes not for posts or office and is prepared to organize a round table to discuss ways out of the crisis and details of the transitional government as well as indirectly helping form it. It added that none of its founders would be part of the transitional government.
