The First Public Prosecution said that it collected reports from all the units and guards providing security at the protest organized by students in central Belgrade.
The statement said that the case was opened based on media reports and videos posted on social networks which included a strong, unusual sound that caused panic in the crowd. Instructions to gather information were sent to the Internal Affairs Ministry and determine whether any kind of weapon was used. Prosecutors also got reports from the Defense Ministry, Health Care Ministry and BIA security agency.
“All those reports showed indubitably that none of them or the personnel securing the protest heard or used the so-called sound cannon,” it said and added that an analysis by the Defense Ministry’s Military Technical Institute showed that there was no indication of the sound cannon being used while the Health Ministry report said that none of the patients examined after the incident showed signs of acute acoustic trauma.
“Based on all the above, the prosecution feels that the reports collected so far show that the so-called sound cannon was not used,” it said.
