Public prosecutors Bojana Savovic and Jasmina Paunovic gave on Friday their statements to the State Prosecutorial Council Commissioner for the Independence of Prosecutors, learns N1. The Commissioner initiated the procedure for protection from undue influence, in which the circumstances of Savovic and Paunovic’s removal from the case related to embezzlement in the Serbian national power company (EPS) through an allegedly regular distribution of work will be investigated.

Na also learns that the European Union delegation to Serbia has voiced concern over the case and contacted prosecutors Savovic and Paunovic.

A protest in support of public prosecutors Paunovic and Savovic was held Thursday in Belgrade at which the dismissal of Belgrade’s senior Public Prosecutor Nenad Stefanovic, his deputy Brankica Maric, and Serbia’s current Public Prosecutor Zagorka Dolovac was demanded.

Public prosecutors Savovic and Paunovic, who were both working on a case that led to the arrests of six persons suspected of embezzlement in the Serbian national power company (EPS), were taken off the case and transferred, following the arrests of the suspects, from the Anti-Corruption Department to the General Crime Department, for which they claim public prosecutor Stefanovic is responsible.

The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office said Savovic and Paunovic were reassigned in line with “the regular annual plan revision.”
