In response to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic’s appearance and interview on the show “Cirilica,” broadcast Monday on Prva TV, where he made “shameless claims” disparaging and criminalizing public prosecutors of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime (TOK), the TOK Collegium informs the public that Vucic “exceeded and abused his legally and constitutionally granted powers and attempted to exert undue and unlawful influence on this prosecutor’s office by commenting on ongoing criminal investigations,” TOK said in a press release.

“With insulting and false statements, Aleksandar Vucic is once again targeting prosecutors and, from his position of authority and power as president of the Republic, attempting to unlawfully influence the outcome of initiated proceedings by claiming these are ‘fabricated cases’” TOK emphasized.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, such unacceptable statements by the president, which disparage and defame holders of judicial office, not only aim to create a public image of unlawful conduct and an atmosphere of lynching, but also directly obstruct justice, thereby undermining the constitutional and legal order and the rule of law.

Discussing proceedings against several officials for alleged document forgery related to the lifting of the General Staff complex’s cultural heritage protection status, the Serbian president referred to certain prosecutors from the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime as criminals and a corrupt gang.

“Let me tell you that you are a corrupt gang in prosecutor’s offices, in the majority of prosecutor’s offices, that you have a countless number of corrupt judges under your control with whom you work, but I also believe that the majority of both prosecutors and judges are honest and responsible people,” Vucic told the Prva TV show.

According to him, “that corrupt gang, from certain prosecutor’s offices, invented the case of the General Staff renovation.”

He also accused other judges and prosecutors of “setting free, on daily basis, all those who hit someone on the street with bars and clubs,” adding that he “is just waiting for them to release the person who shot a man.”

“Every day - both prosecutors and judges. Prosecutors sometimes won’t prosecute someone, but even more often, judges want to show they are blockaders, perhaps to prove themselves to someone,” Vucic assessed. (‘Blockaders’ is a derogatory term used by the ruling party officials and pro-regime media for student and citizen protesters)

He claimed that 10 percent of people in Serbia “cannot stand him” because of his stance on “corrupt judges and prosecutors.”

“Thanks to a corrupt gang that takes money and has stuck together for 20 years like the worst kind of mafia. They always work directly against the state, always,” Vucic said.
