Prosecutor's Office says seven people detained at protest pleaded guilty

The VJT said they pleaded guilty in exchange for suspended sentences and fines, and that the agreements are yet to be confirmed by the Higher Court in Belgrade.

The persons suspected of the crimes of calling for a violent overthrow of the constitutional order and/or violent behavior at sports events and public gatherings were questioned on Tuesday and on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday at the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office (VJT) in Belgrade, said the VJT in a statement.

All the suspects presented their defense.

Two other suspects were released pending further legal proceedings.

Following questioning, the prosecution proposed to the preliminary proceedings judge of the High Court in Belgrade to order that 11 other suspects be remanded in custody as there are grounds for believing that they might repeat the criminal offense.

“Criminal charges have been filed against all the suspects for the aforementioned criminal acts, in connection with which evidentiary proceedings will be conducted in a shortened procedure, following which the prosecution will decide whether to file indictments against the suspects or to suspend the proceedings,” said the Prosecutor’s Office.
