A large number of citizens gathered on Sunday in Cetinje to protest against the enthronement of Joanikije Micovic as the Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral of the Serbian Orthodox Church, scheduled for September 5 in that city.

Joanikije said he is willing to talk to anyone who has something against his service.

The organizers of the protest are asking for his enthronement to take place in some other place and not in the Cetinje monastery, the seat of the Metropolitanate.

They said that Joanikije was “unworthy of the throne of St. Peter of Cetinje”, that he is an “employee of the Church of Serbia” and announced they will “defend” the Cetinje Monastery.

“They renounce me, but I won’t renounce them, they are my brothers,” said Joanikije.

He pointed out as incorrect and tendentious claims that the church is called the “Church of Serbia,” but that it is the Serb Orthodox Church, and that it is not sent by any state.
