Protest marks anniversary of beatings in Novi Sad

A crowd gathered in front of the Assembly on July 21, 2022 answering a call from local activists to protest against the adopting of a General Urbanistic Plan for the city which they said was drawn up to meet the needs of private investors. The crowd was pushed back and beaten by private security guards.

Friday’s performance was an exhibition of pictures of last year’s violence as well as T-shirts with the insignia of the private security company. The pictures and T-shirts were laid on the street and covered in paint which was also used to leave handprints.

Organizers said another protest would be organized in a week.
