Protests against the construction of a bridge across the Danube in the northern Serbian city of Novi Sad continued for a second day on Wednesday but with a greater police presence.

There was some shoving between protesters and Gendarmerie troopers in riot gear when the crowd managed to break through the cordon and tear down part of the fence around the planned construction site. An N1 reporter said that several people were arrested. Prior to the incident, protesters raised the flag in front of the cordon and told the troopers that they are “ashamed of traitors”.

Several protesters were arrested on Tuesday after tearing down the fence put up by China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) workers.
