Students of the Belgrade University Law School said that activists from non-governmental organizations are not allowed to represent students who have been engaged in blockades at universities in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Kragujevac, and Nis for over a month.
“We clearly and unequivocally distance ourselves from all activist groups and NGOs and their activities. Consequently, their members should not be promoted as representatives of students. Any further media appearances on behalf of students will be considered malicious and against the interests of the blockades and the fulfillment of our demands,” the future lawyers emphasized in a statement published on their official social media account.
Law School students reiterated the common stance of all participating university faculties, emphasizing that no individual stands above the community.
“We are not followers of a personality cult. Our actions are collective, deliberate, and responsible. We are on the streets for an idea, not personal gain. This is neither the time nor the place for individuals to stand out, but rather for unity and solidarity,” they stressed.
They acknowledged the role that political parties and civic associations play in a democratic society, but warned that such groups have no place in leading or representing student protests.
