Protests across Serbia

Students of the Belgrade Arts University Faculty of Dramatic Arts staged a public class in front of the Education Ministry, under the slogan We are giving you a lesson – Protest for Education. They were joined by Belgrade high school teachers and students.

Belgrade theater troupes gathered in front of St Sava Temple for the daily 15 Minutes of Silence before marching to all of the city’s theaters as a Traveling Troupe. Their march ended in front of the Labor Ministry. Theater troupes in Belgrade, Novi Sad and other cities started a week-long strike on Monday.

In Novi Sad, a protest rally was held outside the Clinical Center of Vojvodina, organized by the students of the School of Medicine.

Novi Sad nursery teachers gathered in the afternoon in front of the Higher School for Educators, after which they began a protest march in support of the students.

Students of the State University of Novi Pazar, joined by citizens, blocked the main road Novi Pazar – Tutin and honored the victims of the Novi Sad disaster with a 15-minute moment of silence.

Several hundred educators, students, and high school graduates protested in the city of Cacak, at the invitation of the local Education Union. Outside the Grammar School, they paid tribute to those who died in the November collapse of the canopy at the Novi Sad main train station with a 15-minute moment of silence and blocked the intersection outside the school.

On behalf of the Grammar School staff and the Cacak Education Union, teacher Ana Randjic said they gathered to demand “free education in a free Serbia.” “We stand with the students because we know that their path of nonviolence, love, and justice is the only path for our schools and our country,” Randjic said.

Residents of Belgrade’s Karaburma neighborhood also blocked the main street in their area on Tuesday, paying tribute to the victims of the Novi Sad tragedy.
