The Archive shared on X a comprehensive list of cities, towns, municipalities, and villages where citizens have gathered to protest following the deadly collapse of a concrete canopy at the recently renovated Novi Sad train station. The incident claimed 15 lives.
For three months, citizens across Serbia have been staging daily protests and traffic blockades to commemorate the victims and demand accountability. Despite the arrest of 13 people in connection with the disaster, protesters continue to demand the release of documents related to the train station’s reconstruction and the “liberation” of the judiciary.
Students have emerged as the driving force behind these nationwide demonstrations, leading protests even in the smallest communities. Their sustained campaign, now in its third month, has successfully mobilized broader citizen participation.
Despite government attempts to quell the protests through various incentives, students have maintained their position and continued their demands for transparency and accountability.
Students have spearheaded three of the largest protests in recent Serbian history: a mass demonstration at Slavija Square in downtown Belgrade that drew up to 102,000 people according to AoPG, a 24-hour road blockade at the Autokomanda junction in Belgrade, and a 27-hour blockade of three bridges in Novi Sad marking three months since the tragedy.
