The Movement of Free Citizens (PSG) condemned the actions of the head of the temporary body governing Belgrade, Aleksandar Sapic, who took a mobile phone from an activist and smashed it on the ground.

Sapic was having a discussion with environmental activists at the Sava Quay in Belgrade on Thursday.

“Aleksandar Sapic once again displayed his thuggish and violent nature today by attacking environmental activists defending the Sava embankment in New Belgrade, and so confirmed what Belgraders have long known – that he is unworthy of holding any public office, least of all that of the mayor of the capital city,” said Stefan Simic, the head of the PSG Belgrade branch.

“I understand Sapic's anxiety because he too realizes that, after two defeats in two years and the usurpation of power in Belgrade, his position is unsustainable, but that cannot justify an attack on anyone,” the PSG quoted Simic as saying.

The activist and resident of New Belgrade’s Block 70, whose phone Sapic grabbed and smashed, is an N1 employee, but was not on duty at the time of the incident.
